G-Update and Affiliate Hacks

Sponsored by

There was a new Google core update started today, but I will reserve judgment on it for my Twitter and likely in an email for later this week…

But what I wanted to chat about is pretty amazing. It’s how ONE affiliate program can make or break a site.

I found a program that is paying me STUPID amounts of money and getting conversions left and right!

Let’s chat about it…

In the month of February, I had a site that generated 13,000 or so page views.

Not much at all.

But the site is LASER targeted to its niche audience and that same 13,000 visitors generated over $10,000.

Wild right?

The main reason for this is the affiliate program pays nearly $700 per referral, and it’s a product that a lot of people don’t really need, but it’s nice to have.

I don’t want to reveal it here because the competition is stupid low, but if this same program was only paying 1.5% from amazon, it would be a completely failed site.

Finding affiliate programs that pay anything over $250 I would consider “high-ticket” commissions and totally worth the effort to get conversions.

So, this is how I found this program.

Reverse engineering the competition.

I am always on the lookout for affiliate programs that I may be able to build a site around and one of the best ways I find to get them is to find the ones that my competitors are already doing.

So I join email lists, peruse their site for popups, see where their affiliate links are going and start making moves to join those same programs, but for myself.

Another thing I do is pull up Ahrefs and search for the “amz to” links and check all the times that have backlinks. This is tougher as literally tens of thousands of sites will appear, but spending some time just going page to page making quick observations help narrow down my gaze and I can find more programs to join.

Sometimes, you find an amazing program that can turn into what we are doing right now with this current site.

Once you find a good program, it’s time to build out the site and content.

With your first pieces of content, stick with all the monetized pages you want to create. This will include a review of the program you will be promoting and Top 10 “Best of” list posts.

Ninja-Trick: Don’t forget about Best X for Y pages as well. I usually just jump into Google and type in “Best Coffee mug for…” and just put in the alphabet afterward, looking for low-hanging fruit that has slipped below the radar.

After you have created the monetized pages, build hubs connecting them to informational supporting pages. This is all about the interlinking. I use Link Whisper to hasten this process.
