I love this company, but...

I absolutely adore email, but sometimes, it sucks.

As you know, I’ve been using Beehiiv before. Using Beehiiv was cool, and they have been great all around.

A couple minor complaints about the time to get support (around 24-48 hours) but the free Slack channel greatly makes up for that.

But there is something that is going on now that is so annoying that I’m about ready to drive into a wall.

Their ads system.

This cannabis startup pioneered “rapid onset” gummies

Most people prefer to smoke cannabis but that isn’t an option if you’re at work or in public.

That’s why we were so excited when we found out about Mood’s new Rapid Onset THC Gummies. They can take effect in as little as 5 minutes without the need for a lighter, lingering smells or any coughing.

Nobody will ever know you’re enjoying some THC.

We recommend you try them out because they offer a 100% money-back guarantee. And for a limited time, you can receive 20% off with code FIRST20.

For a quick overview, Beehiiv’s system sends ads to your newsletter to use in upcoming editions.

But you are beholden to the ads being presented to you.

This newsletter, for example, gets plenty of opportunities. In fact, it’s too many. But it’s nice to make a few bucks just to send an email that isn’t pushing a course or membership.

Ads allow me to confidently write an email that is straight value and comes back with cold, hard cash rather than sweat equity.

However, Your Extra Paycheck (which has 5x as many subscribers and similar open rates) gets maybe one per month.

Honestly, the system seems random, but I don’t think it is…

In the private Slack group that Beehiiv has (which is freakin awesome and jam-packed with free information to grow fast), they have a channel for monetization.

I believe the channel is supposed to be there to help people learn to monetize a newsletter, but it is nothing but littered with people literally begging to get some ad opportunities.

And the issue you have is if one person does it and gets away with it, everyone will. So that is all you will see in that channel. Probably the only “unhelpful” channel on that server.

So what can I do?

Beehiiv’s ads are just like display ads on a website; it’s easy. It’s automatic. But if the network is trash or doesn’t work as expected, you lose revenue.

But the answer with a website is the same with a newsletter…. sell my own ad space.

I’ve been working with Justin Moore, learning his Brand Deal Wizard course, and it's GREAT.. like, really great.

In fact, a couple of you have signed up using my link (thanks, I appreciate that), but I’ve owned the course for about a month now, and it’s time to start making pitches.

This is the ultimate, “fine, I’ll do it myself” type moment (IYKYK)
